Trinidad and Tobago ASCD Executive Director Jennifer Doyle presented to a group of 57 parents from the St. George East Parent Teacher Region on the significant roles of parents in education. Emphasis was placed on the importance of the region’s development of a Parental Involvement Plan (PIP) and building positive relationships.

Her dissertation was focused on mentorship for novice rural principals..Jaime is currently the Director of Student Achievement for the Lake Havasu Unified School District in Lake Havasu City, Arizona,
Edgar Torres EL22 graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with a Ph.D. in Education Administration on May 6, 2023. His dissertation focused on the impact funding and expenditures have on student achievement for English learners. Edgar is currently the Coordinator of Equity and Opportunity for the Mapleton, Colorado Public Schools.
Jamaica ASCD executive director Shellon Samuels White published “Level Up Higher Education Assessments with ChatGPT” in Faculty Focus higher education magazine, sharing how she is using the AI-based application with her classes in new and exciting ways. In addition to her role with our Jamaica affiliate, Shellon is also a 2022 ASCD Emerging Leader.
Dr. Amanda E. Austin EL18 is presenting "Collective Efficacy: Building High-Performance Learning Cultures" at Model Schools Conference in Orlando, Florida June 25-28, 2023. Dr. Austin, along with her leadership team, will emphasize the importance of building collective efficacy among all staff in growing your school’s academic potential.
Matt Wachel EL15 accepted a position with the Bonner Springs-Edwardsville, Kansas School District to be their Director of Instruction, State and Federal Programs. The district includes portions of the cities of Bonner Springs, Edwardsville and Kansas City. Matt was previously an elementary principal with the Gardner Edgerton School District.
Brenda Mendoza EL15 has her racial justice Latinx Series is available for preorder on Amazon, Barnes and Noble, and Target! The entire series will be available in August everywhere books are sold. Brenda is a bilingual education teacher for the West Aurora School District 129 and the Whole Child Advocacy lead for Illinois ASCD.
Dr. Matthew Woods EL21 Dr. Woods successfully completed the 2023 Aspiring Superintendents Program. The program is a partnership among the Virginia Association of School Superintendents (VASS), the Virginia Tech School of Education, and the Virginia Tech Center for Organizational and Technological Advancement (COTA).
Vanee Smith-Matsalia EL21 was awarded a $21,000 grant to expand her Avid Umoja program at Curtis Middle School in San Bernardino, California. The grant is being used to convert her Avid classroom into an African American Community Wellness Center so that more students will have access to a community space centered on wellness and academic achievement.
Matt Townsley EL14 published "A Parents' Guide to Grading and Reporting: Being Clear about What Matters" with co-author Dr. Chad Lang through Rowman & Littlefield. The book assists parents in understanding what is involved in 21st century assessment to be better partners with educators to support students’ strengths and areas for improvement.
Sarah Thomas EL16 is pleased to announce that her global education platform, EduMatch , has formed a partnership with Teq, a leading provider of technology and professional development for educators. EduMatch will provide on-site professional learning services on behalf of Teq to create a more innovative and inclusive educational landscape.
Carrington Faulk EL20 is excited to announce that he successfully defended his dissertation, “Determining the Degree to Which Ideational Behavior Predicts Occupational Identity Achievement in Emerging Adult College Students Preceding Entry Into the Fourth Industrial Revolution Workforce” receiving a Ph.D. from Old Dominion University.
Mrs. Zena Ramatali, the First Vice President of Trinidad and Tobago National Council of Parent Teacher Association ( NPTA) and an executive member of Trinidad and Tobago ASCD was recently selected by the Government of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago to be the parent representative at its Caribbean Community (CARICOM) two-day Symposium.
